Kings Funeral/Heir to the Throne is Announced

ALL: The High Priest would move foward gongs are heard echoing slowly though the hall one by one to signal for all to be quiet. Most here in attendence are those who are Lords or Rich enough to be able to attend. The HIgh Priest would move and stand at the head of the body. "Please my brothers and sisters let us stop for a moment of silence" He would bow his head five minutes would pass with silence well expect for the coughing and the sneezing that always happens. Then he would lift his head up and the brothers of the faith would begin the chant singing the names of his line to his own. Being only the fifth of his line made the song rather short. Then the great deeds are told in song as well of his line from ending the rule of the shadow queen to expelling many invaders an conquering half of an other kingdom. Then he would bow his head and step back and to the side allowing the queen to take over.

says to ALL: She arises from the throne with the help of a hand of one of her guards. The crowd parts as she descends the dais and approaches the funeral pyre. She draws in as deep a breath as the tight corset allows and the crowd goes quiet. It has not been often in the little over a year of marriage that the queen has spoken publicly and those gathered are interested to know what she might have to say. People of the Realm of Storm, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for the outpouring of love and respect that you have shown for my husband, the King. As the last of his line, his people were his family and he cared for them all for a long time. For more than a century, longer than any other ruler, he has carried the weight of the realm and now, that weight has been lifted from his shoulders forever. May he find peace and great rewards across the river and may his people remember the peace he brought to this realm and not disgrace his memory by fighting over that which has been left behind. She raises her voice as much as she can without shouting for the last part, her eyes moving to the balconies one after another before taking the torch from the priest and tossing it to the pyre.

It doesn't take long for the flames to rise high, forcing those near it to back off. The heat is rather intense and sparks start to float out into the night sky like so many fireflies. The flickering flames draw her attention as usual. She is so much like a moth to the flames.

Taking a torch she stood at the pyre and gazed down a bit as she spoke. “I Marsia Sterling, High Lady of the East and fifth of my line, light the fire of the East to speed his journey.” Moving to place the torch at the East side she moved back and made her way to the left side of the Queen standing silently with her hands folded in front of her.

Rynold takes a torch and speaks. "I Rynold Ordan, High Lord of the West, light the fire of the West so that the winds may forever be at his back." He lights the remaining side of the pyre and we step back quickly, moving to the right side of the Queen, as the heat is starting to become rather intense.

says to ALL: Now that all sides have set the pyre ablaze, the heat becomes rather intense. The guards start to usher the onlookers away from the fire, which once fully engulfed quickly starts to die away, and out of the doors. Leaving only those who make up the counsel and who have great interest in the sealed decrees of the King to be opened after the funeral. Come, North, South, East and West, to the counsel chambers. There is much to discuss. She gestures towards the counsel chambers and the guards lead the way, forming a double line for the counsel to pass between into the counsel chambers. Once everyone is inside they would find a round table with an engraved square in the center. Each side of the square has an ordinal direction. The King's seat rests at the point of the square between North and East and she takes that seat but does not sit down, waiting with several sealed parchments in her hand for everyone to take a seat. A guard stands to either side of the immense fireplace, in each corner of the room and on each side of the double doors.

Then she joins her husband at his side and moves with him and the others into the counsel chambers, taking one of the seats reserved for the North, setting her bag at her feet and gesturing for our guard for drinks as we wait expectantly for the parchments to be open to learn of the King's dying declarations. Her eyes moving among those present, somewhat chagrined that Remus would be the one standing next to the fire.

As our newest Lord, Remus, it was the King's desire that you be the one to open his decree and ensure that this meeting run peaceably. She hands the parchments to Remus and takes a seat, calling to her serving girl to bring her some water.

Leaning back in the chair a bit of sadness flashed briefly in her eyes at the mention of her father, but then went back to normal quickly as she tried not to think on that for to long at the moment. Getting comfortable in the seat she waited until the papers were read off and all could see who was going to be revealed as to who the next in line for the crown would be. As she heard her name she tilted her head as she listened, but at the words her eyes grew a bit widened at the news. “What!? I may be young but as it was stated my grandmother was queen! It is within my blood to hold the crown, such would not stress me.” Blinking a bit she sat up a bit further in the chair but silenced her self for the moment, it wouldn't do much good anyway..the king was dead so who would she be arguing with. Then hearing that Petrova was named as the heir she blinked again. “He has not even been Lord for long!” Tightening her jaw she looked over in Si's direction to seek some bit of calmness.

Although, she reflects, that such a decree had to be made demonstrated in and of itself that the King did not place much conviction that the heir he named would take up the mantle of the realm, or at least without opposition. Nor was she surprised at her husband's choice for it was one often whispered in his ear. She might have favored more the South, simply because he had not yet taken a second wife, leaving her with the slight chance of retaining her crown. Now her hope was to remain out of the center of a fight and that whoever would next take the throne would remember her and find a suitable position for her within the realm. As for the fighting and bickering about the throne, it is out of her hands.

"Might I recommend, as it is with in the accordance to the laws, that if no heir is willing nor is anyone decided upon by the High Lords that the lands meet and they vote upon it?" It was a long shot sure..but laws were laws after all.
